The thyroid gland is a small butterfly-shaped organ located in the front of the neck. It creates hormones that help control vital functions in the body. Preparing cabbage involves lightly steaming it or eating it raw. Raw cabbage is usually used in coleslaw and other types of salads, as well as fermented – sauerkraut, which is consumed as a natural source of probiotics, beneficial bacteria for the digestive tract. The most consumed parts of cabbage are the leaves.

Natural forms

  • Raw – in order to treat inflammation and pain, we often apply fresh, clean and cooled cabbage leaves directly to the skin. When the leaf warms up and withers, replace it with a fresh one.
  • Cooked – we eat it in stews, soups, etc.
  • Juice – drinking a mixture of raw carrot and cucumber juice mixed with raw cabbage juice will make dry hair soft and shiny. Also, vitamins A and D from the juice work to cleanse the skin.

Cabbage poultice is effective in removing skin irritations/acne, eczema, rash, psoriasis, etc. when used as a poultice. Blend the cabbage leaves, wrap the contents in a cloth and apply to the affected area for 15 minutes.

Cabbage is a vegetable rich in water, vitamins and minerals. Potassium in cabbage helps strengthen muscle activity and transmit nerve impulses, while magnesium is part of bones and improves immunity.

Cabbage is rich in vitamins C and E, which have antioxidant effects, and vitamin A, which is essential for vision, especially when eaten raw. It also contains folate, which is involved in the production of red and white blood cells.

It is also believed that this vegetable is highly recommended in diets for weight loss, cholesterol reduction and is generally good for people with digestive problems.


Cabbage is one of the vegetables recommended for moderate consumption, because if we consume large amounts, it can cause flatulence due to raffinose.  Also, excessive consumption is not recommended for people with hypothyroidism, as it interferes with the production of thyroid hormones, especially for people with iodine deficiency.

You must be wondering how to make thyroid compresses. It’s very simple.

First of all, it is important to buy large, if possible, organic cabbage. Remove a leaf that is completely healthy and wash it. Dry it, then cut with a knife and remove the hard veins from the leaf. Place a cabbage leaf on a flat table, using a rolling pin or a glass bottle and press down on the leaf to release its natural juices.

Cabbage contains antioxidants choline, beta-carotene, lutein and zeaxanthin, as well as flavonoids, quercetin and apigenin. Red cabbage usually contains more of these compounds than green cabbage.


Place a cabbage leaf directly over the affected area and cover it with gauze or a cotton cloth. Keep the cabbage poultice on the affected area for about an hour and you can repeat this process with another cabbage leaf 2-3 times a day.

You can make hot or cold wraps from cabbage, for cold wraps keep the cabbage in the refrigerator, while for hot wraps heat the cabbage leaf in the microwave for 15-30 seconds so that the heat releases the juices from the cabbage.
